a sad day

o tiny spoonful of havarti cheese
and half a subway sandwich shared,
the instant noodles (shrimp) did not please,
so bread and jam were thus paired.

such accursed meals to fill the day
when at school all day, i slave.

in lab, i cook, but not for delight
it does not stave my hunger's plight.

avocado orange salad and kimchee spamwiches

after spending most of my break in HK (read about similar adventures at The ABC) eating out or having someone else cook for me, i became soo lazy that i still don't feel much like making my own food. but, i have no desire to starve, so here goes.

yeah, more veggie stew in a tomato base with Northern beans, eggplant, celery, onion

Lara (of veggie lasagna fame) came over for dinner and this was the salad she made with what was around.. orange/juice, tomatoes, avocado, and celery with some olive oil and salt. celery has been scientifically proven to taste better when cut "hotdog", rather than "hamburger" style.

very oily progresso chicken noodle soup mixed with leftover veggie bean stew. leftover steak from dinner with Lara cut and stirfried with blackbean, garlic, and pepper sauce.

roomie's toasted poorboy. bologna, other deli meats, swiss cheese.

thai red curry. chicken breast, onions, celery, carrots, eggplant. cooked it in a canned, but very tasty sauce.

tilapia curry???

1-16-06 011a

I don' t know how to use curry powder. so of course, i try without finding a credible recipe out of what could be either a sense of adventure, or sheer laziness. i seasoned some tilapia fillets with salt and a bit of curry powder. a bit later, put some oil into a pan with smushed garlic and some more curry powder in the hopes that that'd bring out some of the aroma and flavor into the oil. then i tossed in my fishies, some onions, and half a bag of frozen peas that had last served as an icepack for my puffy cheeks when i got my teeth out. it didn't taste half bad. but it still seemed rather bland compared to the real stuff. i want to make the type of indian food my neighbors make--so strong and aromatic that you can smell it all the way down the hall and around the corner.
